CEO Christian Petersen Announces Retirement from Asmodee NA

Christian Petersen, designer of Twilight Imperium and founder of Fantasy Flight Games, will be stepping down as CEO of Asmodee NA by the end of 2018. Petersen assumed the role in 2014, following Asmodee's acquisition of Fantasy Flight. During his career with Fantasy Flight he published over 400 games and was personally involved in A Game of Thrones: The Board Game, World of Warcraft: The Board Game, the Lord of the Rings Trivia Game, and many others.

In the press release, Petersen stated:

“After nearly twenty years with FFG and four years with Asmodee, I’ve seen our

market go through tremendous change and amazing growth. Tabletop games have

been accepted into the fabric of society and represented in pop-culture more

positively than anyone could have hoped for when I joined the industry. I feel fortunate

to have experienced this phenomenon first-hand, and to have been part of such an

incredible journey.

Following Petersen's exit, Asmodee NA will be split into two branches: Asmodee North American Distribution (headed by Andre Kieren) and Asmodee North America Publishing (headed by Steve Horvath).

This is big news in the board game industry, as Petersen has been a major player for over twenty years. Though there has been speculation regarding whether the role shift may have been planned following Fantasy Flight's acquisition, Petersen himself noted:

“I leave to focus on family, health, and the pursuit of other interests. My departure has

been long-planned with the Asmodee Group CEO, and my friend, Stephane Carville.
